Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know I had the same experience w/ my 1012 (1366x768 LCD, 2GB RAM, 640GB WD Blue HD, Broadcom Crystal HD decoder, Intel 6200 wireless).
Before I received the machine last week, I searched around this forum trying to figure out which would work better. I initially loaded W7 Ultimate 64 and kept having problems with the system bogging down, mostly with browsing the web. So at the beginning of the week I reloaded everything with W7 Ultimate 32 and it runs much better/smoother. Multitasking is now possible, and Firefox/IE run so much better.
I think a lot of this has to do with the single core processor, but also the 2GB of memory. Every app I was running was a 32 bit app (aside from what comes packaged with Windows) running in a 64 bit environment, which meant it had to be emulated. Anyhow, this was just my experience. I think most people forget that modern systems ship with 3GB+ of RAM and at least a dual core CPU (not all, but most) and having only low voltage, single core CPU w/ hyper threading will only get you so far, especially with only 2GB of memory.
Just my thoughts...

My system runs at the same time (7/24) :
2 Mozilla Firefox with a lot of tab (sometimes it means more than 20 pages!)
1 Mozilla Thunderbird
1 Something more..
That's multitask, there is no problem with it under 64bit.

My 2 cents . The pesky "plugin-container.exe" on FF makes my system slow sometimes.
Thinking of getting either MKNSSDCL60GB-DX, OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G or Kingston SSDNow V+ Series SNVP325-S2/64GB.

Well if updating bios requires a 32 bit environment, I guess we all need to accept that and that is why I went to 32 bit. I really don't want to mess around with unknown software utilities in order to defy that. Also Dell purposely kep this netbook line as 32 bit. There must be a reason.
