I liked the 1012 however there is one annoying quirk. The darn integrated keypad. The click is very hard, left or right. I tried the suggestion of the HP driver but still could not get the hang of it, so it went back to Dell today. I ordered the M101z.
To answer your question the 1012 was much easier on the eyes with with 1366 by 786 screen. The size was easy to handle just a couple of inches longer and wider than the mini 9. The weight was about 8 oz more. The speed of the 1012 was good with the 7200 rpm. An ssd
should give a nice bump. The 1012 definitely was quicker to load and browse than my mini 9. Both have N wireless but the mini 9 only has two antennas.
Having done some remote work when I was in document imaging doing edm work I wonder if having the next size up M101z would be better? Also if you are clicking remote desktops the keypad may be a disaster. Lag time coupled with a jumpy keypad may cause more problems.
