Post Dell mini 1012 vs 1018 - Dell's take on it - 01-09-2011, 06:46 PM

Here it is
Hot out of the oven

Seems like dell changed how they are positioning the mini 1012 vs 1018.

They are offering mini 1012 only with the high end options.

HD screen
Cystal HD Decoder

Also, i ordered a ICE BLUE mini 1012 from outlet and the order details state

VM02H Module,Assembly,Base,Black,N450,Wireless Wide Area Network
apart from an ice blue cover.

So, i hope that they are using the black bottom cover like the 1018

I might get lucky here. Seems like the black base mini 1012 does exist.

Here is the ice-blue black base mini 1012
Dell® Samos Inspiron Mini 1012 - AT&T Business Direct® | Premier Business Center

Based on the service tag for my order, the specs match exactly.

I should get the mini on wednesday.

I was told the white base is from Dell direct, the black base was offered to resellers (like Walmart, Best Buy, etc).

The depot systems could have come from anywhere so they could be either.

First post, nice to be here all, I just bought a 1012 from the outlet in ice blue, I had originally ordered a 1018 for more money but saw it didn't have some things this other model had. Besides the screen, extra USB port and bigger battery what are the differences? I do know the atom processors are different but does that really matter? What one is better and why? Thanks in advance for the help! I Just want assurance that I bought the right model for my needs, also the RAM access door in the 1012 was a big factor in my decision to cancel the first order when it came up delayed...
