Hey guys, been lurking for a bit as I set up my refurb 1012 (1024x600, no tv/gps/wlan/bluetooth/hd/etc), and this forum has been extremely helpful - thanks!
I started reading it a bit too late though, and ended up ordering a mini with a HB95 (Atheros) wifi card. The speed cap isn't that terrible, but it's a little obnoxious that this N card can't see the 5ghz band.
Worse, though, is that it's very very slow to join wireless networks. When joining a new network, it takes a solid minute or two from selecting the network (or entering the password) to being able to use the connection - it spends a lot of time in the "[Network Name] - No Internet Access" status. It also takes a little while for it to join familiar networks when it wakes from sleep or hibernation.
- Has anyone else seen this problem?
- I'm coming from a Mac; is this just a Win7 thing?
- If other HB95 owners don't have this issue, might I have a bum card? Anyone ever have luck getting Dell support to swap a wifi card?
- Would upgrading to a 1520 (or other) wifi card resolve this?
I bought this as my "take anywhere and cheap enough that if it breaks it's not a tragedy" computer, so I don't really want to put another $40 or whatever into it (on top of the obligatory RAM upgrade) if it won't fix this slow-to-join problem. Thanks for your help!
