Default GPS and TV Tuner after the fact - 10-14-2010, 10:57 PM

I bought an otherwise fully optioned 1012 from the outlet (HD screen, Broadcom Crystal HD, Bluetooth, etc.). It doesn't come with GPS or the TV Tuner. I'm interested in adding them. From the internal shots, I'm guessing they come in the form of mini PCI-e cards. Does anyone have the Dell part numbers?

I've looked on e-bay and the only TV tuner cards for mini PCI-e are AverMedia cards but they don't have the prerequisite cable to connect the antenna (since I've seen on the boards it has an external aerial). The only GPS modules I can find on PCI-e are Sierra Wireless WWAN cards.

So anyone have luck adding either after the fact?

I dunno, but I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of the slots are missing. It's probably possible to add the slots, but it's not for the weak willed.

I was wanting the exact same thing. I bought a 1012 with bluetooth, and there's an extra pcie slot there. Is this the correct GPS card?

I'm also wondering if we need to worry about antennas when adding the gps.

yes, I believe you will need the antennas too, unless maybe it uses the same antenna as the wifi?.....probably not though
