350 and 500 GB Hard Drives on Amazon - 09-09-2010, 04:53 PM
Optimum Solution Electronics supposedly sell 320 and 500 GB on Amazon hard drives that are compatible with the Mini 1012. Does anyone know if the Mini 1012 can handle them?
Here is the URL:

The Mini 1012 uses standard laptop-sized SATA drives, like virtually all modern netbooks and laptops. (SATA, 2.5" form factor, 9.5mm tall)
Info about the 137GB limit in XP from MS. The limit doesn't doesn't apply to XP, unless you're running a version of XP that predates SP1 (or very obsolete hardware). SP1 came out 8 years ago.

I'm sure the one you linked to would be fine, but it seems a little expensive to me (maybe because the seller is trying to indicate that the 1012 requires a special drive like the Mini 9 does?). As reflex noted, any standard 2.5" SATA HDD should work.
I would personally go with something like this:
Amazon.com: Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive 2.5 Inch, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM SATA II WD5000BEVT: Electronics
Or maybe this one from Newegg:
Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9500325AS 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Either one would save you about $30.
Just my two cents!

Inspiron 11z (1110): Passion Purple, SU4100, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, Win7
Alienware M11x R1: Cosmic Black, SU7300, 4 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Win7

i will go for the 7200rpm hdd for the read/write speed improvement and it's still cheaper than the drive you mentioned. Please read the users' review also!
