I have formatted the harddrive again, and done a fresh install. So far, so good. I am about to install the multitouch, and see if that is what was causing the problem.

So probably some bad sectors that have been removed from use by the format. If you find out the make of the hard drive you can download a low level test program (usually runs from a bootable CD).

It is a WD Scorpio Blue. I've ran a lot of hd tests and there are no indications of a problem. I am going to just attribute it to too many firefox extensions or too many Windows.old directories from the x64 install I did and the original Win7 Starter.

interesting and glad you resolved your issue. I have not had any problems re: freezing on 1012. I am trying to install W7 ultimate sometime this week. I have firefox but I don't install too many extensions. Those things slow the PC down.

Almost 100 percent certain it was the damn echofon twitter firefox extension. Good riddance. Twitter is gay anyway.
