Default Weird internet problem - 1012 problem? - 08-15-2010, 11:36 PM

Hi,
After a few hours my internet screws up. Some of the symptoms:
web pages stop downloading
When using Google Chrome if I click on a link it changes to a download instead of opening a window or whatever
Windows Live Mail fails when sending/receiving

I'm really not sure what's up. I'm running Win7 starter, I don't have an anti-virus program on it (un-installed the included program) and I'm running Zone Alarm basic. I guessed virus but ran Trend Micro's free scan which found nothing. Cookies and cache are good.

I'm not really sure what's going on, I'm just wondering if this is something "in" the 1210

Thank you,
Dan

I have some questions, which I hope will help lead to the answer.

Which connection fails? Wired? Wireless? Both?

Can you ping another device on the LAN by IP address? Usually, "ping 192.168.1.1" in a command prompt will ping your router.

Sorry, it's the N connection (WiMax card). My other laptop does work when the 1012 fails.

I haven't tried the "ping 192.168.1.1" but I will the next time it fails.

Thank you,
Dan

An update
No, I can't ping the router, and I think even the thumb drive wasn't being read. I unplugged and replugged it in and it worked, but so did the wi-fi at that moment. Wi-fi then failed again.

Screens were really weird. I got "code" on IE and Chrome as well as the download box on Chrome.

What do I do? Is this "in" the 1012?

Thanks,
Dan

first its the "1012" not the "1210"....you will confuse people.....second it could be the Mini, you should still be under warranty... the 1012's arent out that long....call Dell and bitch..end result might be you sending it in for repairs, as where I doubt its your router when other machines can connect when this one fails...

I guess I'll give them a call when I can find the time for what I expect will be a long, long phone call.

Anyone want to guess at a diagnosis via the internet

Thanks

I'd recommend Dell as well. On the flip side you may have spyware on the machine which is causing the problems.
