Default Win7 or WinXP - Who uses either and what do they like about it? - 06-25-2010, 01:43 AM

I am disappointed with Win7 Starter that came with my Mini1012. It does have limited functionality, and I had no idea it would be this way. Does anyone have anything good to say about Win7 Starter? I just don't want to have to put another OS on here.

I think Win 7 Starter is powerful and easy to use. Perfect for a netbook.

I have Win Starter on my Mini 1012 and I don't find it lacking. I was expecting it to be from all the negative reports I have read, but for me persoanlly I find its fine. I am not bothered about changing wallpapers or themes, but they are plenty of apps out there that can get around that issue.

I did install Ultimate for a while, but while running in Aero it drank too much battery, but if I ran it using a basic theme it ran the same as Starter, so I put Starter back on. The only thing I miss from Ultimate is Mahjong Titans, but I have downloaded a version so I am happy now

It is a Netbook after all

Didn't like starter at all, so upgraded to ultimate. I haven't noticed the battery drain so much, but then I have only had it for about 2 days. I also run a 2nd partition for Arch linux, and find I spend more time with that.

If you are somebody who likes the aero effect and changing wallpapers and themes, yeah you will hate starter, but if you just need a no nonsense netbook that gets stuff done, starter will work out great.

Default Windows 7 Starter - 07-03-2010, 09:24 PM

I had the previous Mini 10 1010 with XP and I now have the Mini 10 1012 and I love it with Windows 7. For a netbook, Windows 7 starter is perfect. It has more current features then XP, however it doesn't have all the full features of Windows 7 Premium or Home or Ultimate. The key here is this is a netbook, not a full blown desktop or core duo laptop. For a netbook, the Windows 7 starter works great for me! I like the network features and I like I the fact I am using a much more current OS then XP.
