Default 1012 Startup Problem - 06-14-2010, 06:43 PM

I just bought a new 1012 with win 7 starter. But since the first time i bought it, it started really slow. From the very first time i press the power button, the windows startup runs extremely slow. From the wallpaper showed up until all the icon appeared and that windows startup sound. What happen? What's the problem? Is it because the Avast antivirus installed or what else???

AV pgms in general slow down the boot speed, also run 'msconfig' and see what else is running when you startup and eliminate anything that you do not want or need...

Some AV programs do slow down startup a lot. My Mini 9, which is somewhat slower than your 1012, boots Windows in about 20 seconds.

It may be the antivirus doing a scan at each startup (I think that was an option in Avast). Look in the AV settings and see if you have that set to yes. Personally, all my Windows machines now have Panda Cloud Antivirus free on them.

DOWNLOAD FREE ANTIVIRUS - The first free cloud antivirus against viruses - CLOUD ANTIVIRUS

Seems to use less resources.

I have a 1012 (currently being repaired) and have the same issue too with slow startup. Used to use Avast, but now use Microsoft Security Essentials, which made a marginal difference.

To be honest I am dissapointed with the overall performance of my 1012 and am thinknig of selling it and either getting an 11z or going down the small laptop route with a 13z.

Hope the tips from the other posters help.
