Default Install Dell 1510 Wifi card - 05-31-2010, 01:16 AM

Any insight on installing the 1510 wifi card in my new 1012?

I have already upgraded the ram to 2GB and that was a 3 minute job. I have searched the forum and didn't find anything.

I have ordered the card from Dell so I can run OSX more successfully ... hopefully.

Thanks.

any reason you didnt get the 1520 instead?...that is supposed to be the newer one....I think the difference is the firmware on the board also check how many wires you have I think the 1520 uses 3 and the 1510 uses 2 (dont quote me on this)

1510 and 1520 use two antennae wires. Changing them is not too bad. Have to remove the keyboard, memory, HDD, and Palmrest. That gets you too the card. Then pull the antennae connectors off, take the screw out, lift the card and pull it out at an angle and reverse for installation of the new one. Get the service manual to see better description and pictures. The 1510 is a good card and can go 300, you just have to adjust the settings in the properties.

Have Fun!

gspears - thanks for the info. A bit of searching on the Dell site lead me to this page: Documentation

rrfranczak3 - From reading this forum, it appears that the 1510 had improved speed and OSX support, so it met my needs.

Thanks for your assistance.

Is the 1510 faster than the AR9285 Atheros b/g/n that it came with?

I have read here that one person had an issue with the Atheros card only connecting at 150 while the 1510 would connect at 300..maybe it was just them......maybe not, but I personally have the 1510 and it works great.......I really cant vouch for the 'n' speed as where I only have a 'g' router at the present..but I got the 1510 card anyway for the future..I think its easier to upgrade my router later on than my card.....

mine connects at 54 but thats wireless g..I dont have an 'n' router to check it with..I would have to buy too many wireless 'n' cards it would hardly be worth it, my Mini 10 is the only thing I have that has 'n' on it
