Default 2 Different 6-Cell Batteries? - 03-28-2010, 02:15 AM

Hello! First time poster.

I just got my 1012 a couple of days back. I've been reading the forums here for a couple of weeks now, and have a question on batteries.

Right now, all the talk on batteries is the 3-Cell (28 WHr #312-0967) and the 6-Cell (56 WHr #312-0966). From what pictures I've seen and discussions I've read, the 6-cell battery is a pretty clunky thing, extending out at an angle 3/4" an inch or so from the back bottom of the computer.

The battery my system came with (it was a Fast Track system) is neither of these, however. It's a 6-Cell 56 WHr #312-0968. I can't find anything on here, or even really any Google posts talking about this battery. It doesn't even show up on the Dell parts pages. The Dell parts page lists #312-0966 as the 6-Cell replacement battery for the 1012.

The big thing about the batter that I got, is that it runs completely flush with the case, as the 3-Cell #312-0967 apparently does. So of course, having a 6-Cell without the complaints of the seemingly "normal" 6-Cell is certainly not a matter for complaint, but if anyone knows anything about this battery, I'm wondering how it compares to the 56 WHr #312-0966. I'm -guessing- it's the same, both being 6-Cell 56 WHr batteries, but it never hurts to ask.

P.S. Using the built in Dell battery tool, it was showing about 8 1/2 hours of usage time with a full charge.

The 6 cell on the Mini 1012 sits flush with the body of the machine just like the 3 cell. That's why the back of the screen sits forward of the back of the case - they simply extended the case size to accomodate the larger battery. From the outside you can't tell if you have a 3 or 6 cell fitted.

Some people don't like the look, but personally I think it looks groovy

I was on the Dell site a couple days ago and it was about $159 for the 6 cell battery specifically for the Mini 1012. It was the first time I had found the battery for this version. I went to the Support section and entered my service tag and looked for parts for my unit and the 1012 batteries both 3 cell and 6 cell came up. I couldn't find the batteries just by browsing the site. Not quite sure why...
