Default Webcam Driver for Windows 7 - 03-26-2010, 03:00 PM

So I got my 1012 yesterday and I like it a lot. What I didn't like was the crapware they put on W7 Starter Edition (McAfee, yarg). I went ahead and put one of my retail copies of W7 Pro but I have yet to find a webcam driver anywhere on Dell's site.

Anyone have an installer for the driver that they can post?

Yessir, nothing. Detects it as unknown device in device manager.

It wasn't included on the driver disc, either.

First thing I do when I get a new machine is remove the factory image (Win 7 starter in this case was absolutely coming off!) and then reinstall to get rid of any crapware. I notice that the driver disc has no camera software/drivers. I also cannot seem to get anything to download from that link after registering my 1012 and letting it scan my machine. The only things it lists are two revisions of the camera software and an old version of Adobe Reader.

Has anyone managed to successfully download the camera drivers/software from that site? If so, how did you manage to do it? The Dell download manager constantly crashes for me.

I went to the download section, entered my Service Tag and downloaded Creative Webcam Central and another webcam app, but I can't remember what that was called.

I loaded used the Creative Webcam Central folder and that works perfectly under 7 Ultimate.

Hope this helps.

I just ran into this same problem. I installed Win7 Home Premium x86 and after all the Windows Updates, the only device missing - and one yellow bang in Device Manager - is the webcam.

I tried the site listed above, but it never finishes scanning my system. The driver and/or application for the webcam isn't listed under the normal downloads nor is it on the Driver CD.

So, I'm stuck with no way to configure the webcam. Any other suggestions from those that have reinstalled their 1012?
