It still only runs at 150. I definately recommend the 1510 or 1520. They run at 300 and are very configurable and reliable. |

The newer model has a nice and snappy wireless connection. the older one not so much. until I read this thread I had no clue what was going on and had no idea that dell had shipped them with different cards. Are you guys saying not to go with the HB95 and instead replace it with a DW1510? By any chance, is this the card in question: DELL Card,Wireless,Half Mini-card,DW1510,4322 : Wireless, WiFi, VoIP & Networking | Dell Canada I ran a few searches online and found several sources and a very wide differences in price (see below). I would appreciate any thoughts or recommendations on which one to go with. I just checked and got the following as the wireless card currently in the old computer: product: BCM4312 802.11b/g vendor: Broadcom Corporation and the following is in the new computer: product: AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) vendor: Atheros Communications Inc. What gives. Did I get screwed by Dell? Should I be calling? and what should I be asking them for? |

I think they changed vendors on the hard drives too...glad I got my Western Digital before they switched..they probably just get whats available at the time or which company gives them the better bid on parts iPad 4 (64gb),Targus Versavu Case |

If I do replace the card, should I then use the same atheros card or go for the 1510. Keep in mind I'm running Linux Mint 9 as the OS, which is a version of ubuntu 10.04. EDIT: I just ran a search and it seems like the Broadcom card only has wireless b and g, whereas the atheros does a/b/g/n. I bet that's what is causing the slowness. |

I just reviewed my order for that computer and sure enough, that's what I ordered. I can't believe I didn't look at that more closely. Oh well. By any chance, do any of the links I found seem ok to you. I ask because some of the cards are being sold for the mid $20's, were as others are going for $50. The seem to be the same, but I'm not sure. I'm interested in the 1520 being offfered for sale. Quote:

I could never get the HB95 card to go above 150 whereas the 1510 and 1520 will do 300. That speed is really only important if you are connecting to a gigabit router and wanting to transfer files across. Anyway, for the small investment you might as well have full speed components and while the system is pulled apart you should go ahead and install the BT module as well. You might never know when you'll need it. Just be sure to get the tiny little screws for the BT module. Good Luck! | |
