I did the screen swap on mine because of a dead pixel. It is a 7 on a 1-10 scale of difficulty. Make sure its unplugged and battery out.

1. take all screws out of the bottom.
2. take off keyboard.
3. take off hard drive and memory cover.
3. unplug the power button wire and touchpad wire.
4. take out the three screws holding down the center bezel/palmrest.
5. use a credit to pop off bezel front and rear. even the one behind the screen.
6. unplug the screen from the keyboard.
7. take all screws out that hold screen.
8. use credit card to pop bezel off of screen.
9. replace screen.
10. do 1-9 in reverse.

You almost disassemble and remove damn near every screw on the 1012.

Great I called Dell part 18003573355 and was able to use the part number and they confirmed it was for the Dell 1012. Would you mind telling me where the screws on the screen would be. So hate the 1024x600 resolution but got the mini 1012 during the 2 for 400 promo so cant complain.

I noticed on the bottom of the screen bezel there are 2 small squares. Do those get removed to reveal screws or does the lcd shell just pop open with a credit card. I'd like to take apart my mini 1012 with minimal damage if any.

exactly. just pop those and remove screws. then carefully pop the bezel off. I did mine with no real issue. But I also had my mini in 100 parts. I had the screen assembly removed then poped it apart.

FYI - I bought the LCD from LCDs4Less and it did NOT work. It worked as in it showed an image, but the maximum resolution detected is 1024x600 - same as the stock screen. The screen did not provide EDID data to Windows to tell it what resolutions it is capable of. Also, the screen is actually 1280x768, NOT 1366x768 as the OEM dell one is. So I am RMAing it, and I just purchased the screen from Dell instead

Also, the easiest way to take the screen off is as follows(did it the long way first, this way is MUCH faster):
1)remove the little rubber feet from the front of the screen and take out the screws
2)pry the plastic bezel off, starting from the inside and working your way around
3)remove the cable for the camera connector right at the top of the screen
4)use an electronics screwdriver and unscrew the 4 screws surrounding the screen, and holding it into the metal supports
5)CAREFULLY flip the screen down, and rest it upside-down on the keyboard(might want to put a towel or something on the keyboard to protect the screen
6)remove the cable from the back of the screen
7)reverse the process to reinstall

All in all, a pretty painless install (unless you disassemble the entire computer like i did, and remove the memory, only to not reinstall it correctly and wonder why your computer keeps beeping at you and wont boot - whoops)

If you are worried about the little black bumpers that cover the screws, you can call or use live chat, just say they came off, and dell will send you new ones at no charge. i asked for them when i called for my copy of the windows 7 starter cd which wasnt in the box, and they shipped me like 8 extra feet at the same time.

Finally installed it today, works like a charm. Such a huge improvement over the 1024x600 screen. Once dell finally ships my HB95 wireless card Im set. thanks for everyone on the thread for the help. For anyone trying it removing the bezel off the screen is pretty scary, but there are no wires that can be yanked, just be careful cause the bezel is pretty thin and cracking is a possibility.

Total of 10 screws.

2 under the square black sticker on the bottom corners of the lcd. Very thin stickers so use a sharp screw driver to peel those back. Mine stuck back fine.

4 Screws on each corner holding it in place.

4 more screws once you flip down the screen they're on the sides, thats how you remove it from the metal framing.

Total work time is about 30 mins if you take your time.

Thanks for the follow-up. I also did the screen and you are right the bezel was a little tricky. I used two stiff credit cards to pry against each other to pop it open. I was scared to pry against the side. It is nice having the higher resolution to have more on the screen when I surf the web.

I still recommend the 1510 or 1520 instead of the HB95. I still haven't been able to get a driver from Dell that will run more than 150 on the HB95 but could always get 300 on the others.

Thought I might mention my new Dell 1012 with 1366x768 screen came with the Broadcom chip - there was no mention on the order but it is on the invoice

Very happy, been watching videos on Youtube in 720p :P Pity that we'll likely see h.264 slowly disappear from now on...
