Default Removing Keyboard - 02-02-2010, 03:51 PM

Just purchased my mini 1012 and ordered a 2gig stick of ram from newegg based on a recommendation on this forum.

While I see pictures of the dissembled mini in other threads, I have been unsuccessful in removing the keyboard. Can anybody explain the process so I don't break it while prying it up? Thanks.

I don't know the 1012. On the 1011 (10v) there are three screws on the bottom -- toward the back, but not all the way back -- to be removed. Then you carefully pry it up (I start at the rear) from the topside using fingers.

But 1012 may be different.

1st you need to remove the 3 screws underneath...its the top 3 screws left, middle, right, then you can use either a small blade precision screwdriver or something similar on the top side of the keyboard to pry out the tabs that are on the keyboard one on the left and one on the right, once you have the top pry off a little bit, there also are tabs than run along the sides of the keyboard, as you lift the keyboard CAREFULLY those tabs should just pop out too, then the keyboard should be free, dont life the keyboard too high as there is a ribbon cable attached underneath, you should be able to lay the keyboard upside down on the palmrest at that point, the memory is located under the cover on the right hand side, just remove the screws and replace the memory, then reverse the procedure to reassemble...hope this helps, thats the way I got the keyboard off on my Mini 10 to replace the hard drive, I cant do the memory, but I think the keyboard removal is about the same

The best way to get the keyboard out after you remove the screws is to unbend a large paperclip and stick it in the middle screw hole and push up. That lifts the center of the keyboard a little so you can get your fingernails under it and carefully lift the middle and pull it slightly to the left to pull the right tab out and then to the right to pull the left tab out. That way there is no prying or damaging keys with a screwdriver. Plus it's much quicker and easier.

I do it by pushing it out with a screwdriver in the center screw's hole after the screws are removed. That raises the kbd enough to grab the top edge.
