Hi BB, newbie here just trying to do some research on the new 1012, i previously had a mini 9 which i have since sold due to the terrible playback of any adobe flash web brower movies. I am curious to know what the playback of flash is now like on the new 1012 NM10 chipset for youtube and hulu movies? My mini 9 suffered bad stuttering effect even with 2gb RAM upgrade and all other softwares uninstalled.

As i watch alot of online vids am hoping the mini 1012 has cured this problem?

Hi there.

It plays standard sd flash videos just fine, however it will stutter when you try to play high definition videos on flash. So youtube hd will mostly not work.

However, you should know that in the near future dell will be providing the option of the broadcom crystal hd chip which will do video decoding on hardware, which officially supports full hd playback on flash (starting with version 10.1 which is currently in beta) and windows media but also other unnamed 3rd party players.

If you can't wait for that i'd search some netbook that has the nvidia ion graphics chip.

Btw, firefox is known to cause stuttering on flash videos. This is because it refreshes information of your tabs every 10 seconds. There is no fix that i know of, except a workarund that works well: to increase the update interval. Also what I think helps is to install the latest flash. Version 10 at least, maybe even the 10.1 beta.

many thanks, was wondering when dell where going to be adding these extra's as not available at present, not even the upgraded screen. I have to say my mini 9 wouldnt even play back bog standard low quality vids on youtube and bbc sports website so this does sound like a good improvement to me.

i was writing before by mistake about "standard hd" playing fine.
i meant of course standard sd video.

standard definition video plays well.
i have heared that medium hd videos (so 1280x720) plays ok on external players, but not flash.
