well 1st of all if you are waiting for a fan sound you will be waiting forever, NONE of the Mini's even have fans.....

2nd can you get into the BIOS screen at all (do you get the Dell screen, if not then you probably dont have access to the BIOS either), but try removing the battery then try booting just off of A/C....if still nothing, you are probably looking at a dead mobo

BTW: most of the HD's in these Mini's are pretty quite so you may not hear the HD anyway, I got a 750gb drive in mine and I cant hear it at all...

PS. Welcome to the forum......

like I said earlier, it sounds like a dead mobo........nothing you can do short of changing it.....sorry

I have to commend who ever started this post. I have successfully unbricked my Dell Mini 1010. I did it slightly different because my Dell Mini does not power on without the battery connected. When I plug my power supply in without the battery the indicator light will just blink once and then turn off. So after successfully unbricking it without the power supply I felt compel to share with this forum as it may help someone else with a similar issue to me.

So here are the steps that I took to unbrick my Mini.

1. Purchased a USB Floppy Disc Driveon Amazon ($15)
2. Formatted it with the Somm's Download (I1010 A04 BIOS Recovery)
Make sure you use 32 Bit OS. I used Win XP 32 Bit OS
Follow the steps completely through as all files need to be copiedon to the Floppy
3. Connect USB Portable Floppy and Battery Only to your Mini 10
3. Pressed Fn + End Key while holding down Power.
4. You will hear a beep and continued to hold down Fn + End Key
5. You will see your Floppy drive power light up.
6. Released Fn + End Key (Mini will continue to beep)
7. After 5 Minutes, I dis-logged the battery slightly and placed it in again while the USB FDD was still connected.
8. Heard a long beep and the FDD went to work and Mini was unbricked.

Now I have AO4 BIOS installed. Keep in mind that I did not use the power supply at all as my Mini will not operate with the power supply plug in only.

I hope this will help someone as I felt all hope was lost when read that I had to unplug my battery and use the power supply only.
