Memory usage for OS on a 1Gb Dell Mini 10 :
Win7 : 600Mb
Win7 + Aero theme : 700Mb
WinXP : 330Mb
Ubuntu 9.04 unoptimized : 220Mb
So, if you're planning to have more than 1Gb or don't care about memory usage, you could switch to Win7, but I personnaly think that Win7 consumes way too much memory on a stock Mini10 to work fine for a daily-use
Memory usage was a common complaint when Vista first came out also. What people don't realize is that Vista and Win7 utilize RAM differently than previous versions of Windows and linux. Instead of letting your free memory sit unused, it utilizes it for various types of caching. The system will preload frequently used programs and data to decrease load times when you open them. If you open a program that requires more memory than is currently available, the system will release the memory that is being used for caching. So, although memory usage may look high, its actually just being put to better use.
