Smile Dell Digital TV in the Mini 1010 - 06-19-2009, 11:29 PM

I bought a Digital TV tuner built into my Mini. I can't figure out how to get it to find scanned channels. If you have the Dell 1010, and included the Digital TV tuner in your build, can you let me know how I can get this working? I called Dell and they didn't know what to tell me. They're supposed to call me back in no more than 3 business days with some help. I can't find any manuals or any other written instructions for using the system, and I can't find much on google, either.

First you need an antenna (digital) for it which Dell is yet to launch commercially. So please wait till it arrives. You also need to have digital broadcast in your area.

I got my mini with TV tuner in August. First time I used the TV was at the end of September. Using the software that came with the mini - click on the Dell Digital TV icon - you MANAGE CHANNELS and then SCAN FOR CHANNELS. I got 13. But after watching the thing anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours I get a blue screen. Dell remoted in & updated the drivers TWICE; I spent 5 hours on the phone while we reinstalled the OP system (XP); they sent a tech out to replace the motherboard (tuner card is built into motherboard) and the memory (he did what he was told to do & left - not worrying about the initial problem of blue screen); updated drivers AGAIN; sent out another stupid jerk that replaced the motherboard & memory AGAIN along with the hard drive (this jerk came out twice because he didn't finish the job the 1st time even though he thinks he did - he's now walking funny because I chewed him out); and the latest as of last night reinstalling the drivers AGAIN. Dell is supposed to call me back tonite to see how it is doing. Do they REALLY call you back or do they just make you think they will?

Well anyway after the last phone call last night it still went to blue screen in less than an hour. I have asked for an RMA to return but my requests have gone ignored. Tonite is the last straw. The guy from last night seems to think there is a conflict with the software and the hardware - duh.

Anybody else having problems with the TV tuner on the mini 10?

Default Windows Media Center - 11-12-2009, 10:49 PM

Out of interest, what program are you using to watch TV? I tried the Dell Media Experience but it doesnt even have an option to watch tv (maybe its not detecting it?) I've got it working (finally!) in Windows Media Center but it only runs in windowed mode, in full screen it crashes and locks my mini up after about 10 minutes and never comes back.

OBviously I'd like to watch it in full screen, I got a feeling it could be to do with temperature as its very hot and the CPU seems to be getting raped (although playback is ok) as I cant even right click without it flickering.

Also the whole WMC gui is sluggish and terrible, i have to change channels one at a time and there are no obvious keyboard shortcuts... It also seems to want to record everything as I watch which obviously doesnt help and there's no way to turn it off completely GAH I HATE THIS PROGRAM WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!

Please do not send me support requests via PM.

Still prefer GB-PVR as my default TV tuner app but WinTV7 has become much less buggy than before especially with yesterdays build!

I'm using the Dell Digital TV software that loads when the drivers are installed. Last night the Dell tech did call back (surprise, surprise) - we loaded new GMA 500 drivers. After about an hour the computer freezes - not even CTRL-ALT-DEL brings it back - had to do a hard reboot & it was making a funny noise. Will load the software ya'll have mentioned tonight. Will report back after I have tested it out.

Can't get WinTV to install on the mini. The install keeps asking for the CD but of course I don't have one. Grrrrr - I'm so fed up! LOL

Update about WinTV 7

Looks like this is a issue with hauppauge's latest WinTV installer...may have to find an older build and then just upgrade upto this latest version...

According to this: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=18231, Once you have CD 1.2c installed on your machine you will be able to install future versions without the need for your original CD-ROM. It is a newer WinTV7 build 7.0.27323...
