Default Mini 10 with SIM card slot / WWAN? - 06-17-2009, 07:59 AM

Hi,

I have just received my MINI 10 HD (Z530).
When I ordered it I was told that having integrated broadband was not possible with the Mini 10. Now that I have it I have noticed that it has an integrated Mobile SIM card slot under the battery compartment.

So, before I rip it apart, is it likely to have a slot (PCIe) to take a WWAN card and if so what type?

How can I get more info about the model I have?

The model no: on the base is: PP19S with a REF no: of 08285.

Any ideas?

Kind Regards

Paul

It is possible to have Mini 10s with WWAN so it wouldn't surprise me if its just a WWAN card you need to upgrade.

Yes, it is possible. I'm not sure whether the Mini 10 is the same as the 9/10v, where the slot for the WWAN card has no connector if you did not order it with WWAN. It is possible to solder in a connector for it, but it is complicated and delicate.

Just check while you take the keyboard out if there is a spare Place for a half PCI Card and some Antenna Cables. The Place is under the keyboard at the right side. The WWAN 5530 from Dell should work then with your device. I found one on Ebay for 100 bucks.

WWAN cards are full mini PCIe, they are not half height. The only half height cards currently in use in the Mini's is the WiFi Cards for regular wireless. You could put the WAN card where a SSD or TV Tuner, etc.. would go as long as it is pinned out correctly with the usb connections on the PCIe bus.

However, if there is enough room you could possibly use a half height card...
