Default HD or not HD? - 05-21-2009, 07:54 PM

So I just bought a Mini 10 from Dell. When I was customizing it I decided I probably didn't need to get the HD resolution screen, but after reading around more, people have said that the $35 more is definitely worth it...I just wanted to know your opinions about whether I should return it and get the HD, or keep it with the standard screen.

I think the HD screen option is well worth the extra money, and I'm actually disappointed that the 10v doesn't have it as an option. The standard screen is 1024x576 while the HD is 1336x768. That's quite a bit more real estate. Wikipedia has a good chart of screen resolutions which can give you a good idea of the relative sizes (although they don't have the 1024x576 resolution, they do have 1024x600 on the chart which will give you a good idea): File:Vector Video Standards2.svg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

if you have good eyes, go for it.

I bought mine from the outlet and had no choice of HD screen.

That being said, I have no problem with the regular resolution screen.

I like the 10 more than the 9. the size and the keyboard are nice.

Yea, I went the opposite way. I snagged one from the outlet for 240 and returned it for the HD screen. Probably not the financially sound solution but I wasn't liking how movies looked or having to resize all my onenote files. I paid 100 more for the screen and 6-cell battery. $35 is well worth it IMO

Relative size could make thinks look reallt small but I would go for the HD too. And if there is ant chance that is it hackintoshable at least appplication windows will fit for once compared to the mini 9 I have.

I hesitated too but finally went for the HD sized screen. I'm really happy with the unit overall. For typical 'netbook' use I don't suppose the vertical resolution makes much difference. Still, I went for the larger resolution since ... more is (a little) better !

However I do have issues concerning the video decoding since I can't display HD clips whereas HQ works fine. See my post :
