Default anyone running windows 7 RC on their 10? - 05-06-2009, 03:40 PM

I installed it and it's working great except two parts.

-I get a black screen after boot up and it requires you to click on the show desktop button at the bottom right of the desktop.
-I can't seem to use any resololution except 1024x576

any ideas?

thanks

Am also running RC on the mini 10 and have also notice the wonderful black bars on the screen at start up....
I'm assuming it has to do with the graphics driver for the GMA500 as the Mini 9 with the GMA945 does not have this problems.

Have not tried any other resolution than the default 1024x576

Maybe the name of the thread title should be:
anyone trying to run windows 7 RC on their 10?

I am so disappointed in the performance of the Mini 10 compared to my other two netbooks, I refuse to buy their "add on" or "follow on" products in the 10 line. It is not Win 7 capable in it's current state, partly due to their self-induced silly RAM limitation (perhaps Dell should have listened while Acer was taking a beating on their original "One" with 512 soldered in as well?), partly due to the 500 drivers, partly due to.. Awww nevermind. And no - the Mini 10 is no better with Win 7 even if you upgrade to a faster SATA drive (320GB/7200/16MB cache)... Yep - I tried that too...

Win 7 is running fine on my other netbooks - with twice the Mini 10 battery life...

Just another unhappy Mini 10 customer..

John

I hear ya'. I've even tried a really good SSD that cost as much as the Mini 10 (my other posts go into great detail) but it didn't help much. It is crippled with a capital "C." BTW, I'm writing this on my Mini 9 which runs Windows 7 flawlessly, just quick and flawlessly.

Hey Tom!

Yea - in hind sight (isn't that always the case??!! ) I should have gone with the 9, but I need a larger HDD as I use the netbooks as a test platform and work on the go, home, etc. As well - I manage my own websites - so light, portable access is a *must*.. As I write this, the Asus 1000HE has 2GB with that 320GB/7200 drive in it that I originally bought for "souping" up the Dell and has a "quad boot" (the original drop of XP along with Vista/SP1, Win 7 RC1 and Server 2008).. It's an amazing little device.. My Acer One is their new version (10" screen) witha again 2GB and another 320GB/7200 drive.

My Dell Mini 10 - unfortunately isn't in that class for performance - nor, from what I understand - in the same class as the Mini 9..

Best to you!

John

Yeah, it's slow but usable for me. I mainly use it for email.

I do wish I had known about this site before I bought it though. Would have bought something else.

I'm running W7RC on my mini10 and it's performing fine. I don't have any other netbooks to compare it too. But I'm certainly happy with the performance. Admittedly, I'm a computer geek and I have lower expectations from this box, and use it for rather menial tasks. It's a perfect "bedside" laptop for me.

do you see the black screen as well?

I am running xp now and want to know if 7 is gonna be ok.

those statements about 'mini 10' not compatible with win7 don't make any sense to me. most likely they don't know what they are doing.

To those people who have successfully installed Windows 7 on the Mini 10, how exactly did you do it?

I can't seem to do it from both bootup or while in Windows XP (to install on a different partition)

I run the Windows 7 installed, all seems to be working until it says "Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed". I've tried the registry patch that Microsoft have, but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas of how to get it installed on it?

I hope the issues leading to the general disatisfaction with the Mini 10s is resolved with the 10v's.
