Default Upgrading 802.11 G with 802.11 N on Mini - 04-02-2009, 07:52 PM

In case anyone was interested installing an 802.11 N Wi-Fi card in their Mini 9 in place of the 802.11 G card, I have found one that work. The card was purchased on Dell's web site but I'm sure other exist that may work. This one is listed as "2.4/5 GHz 4965AGN Wireless-N PCI Express Mini-Card for Dell XPS M1330 Laptop" . Manufacturer Part# DR457
Dell Part# 430-2463. While the drivers that came with it would not work, it wasn't hard to find ones that would work on the web. When you try to use the driver cd that comes with the card, you get message that says something about not being compatible with this computer. Makes a big difference when transferring files from one household computer to another.
Oh, and the card retails for $69 from Dell but like I said, other companies may also make one that works possibly costing less.

Did you meant to post this in the Mini 9 forums and not the Mini 10 because the Intel 4965AGN doesn't come in half-height form factors that the Mini 10 uses. The 4965 is a very solid Draft n Wi-Fi card; I have them on my M1330s as well as my Mini 9. Intel's latest drivers are at:

and work for the Dell-branded Intel 4965AGN cards as well as the strictly Intel cards. You can usually pick them up new on eBay for around $30.

M1330: Quad boot: Windows 7 x64, XP Pro x64, Ubuntu, Media Direct
Mini 9: Black, 2GB, 1.3MP Cam, BT, Runcore 32, Windows 7
Mini 10: Black, Z530, Intel 5100 WiFi, OCZ Vertex SSD, XP Pro & Windows 7 (sold)
