Default Did anyone buy a Mini 10? - 02-22-2009, 12:28 AM

Did anyone buy one on QVC today?

No GPS,
No TV tuner,
The M10 pre-hype looks like just hype.
I wonder how many M9 sales Dell lost with hype about GPS and TV tuners on the M10.
The Mini 10 on QVC may be a low end model, but $559 US is not a low end price.

The only change from my Mini 9 is the HDMI port, a 160 G Hard Drive and the added inch of screen size.
Also,

The processor is a 1.6Ghz Z530 Silverthorne on the M10. The processor on my M9 is a 1.6Ghz N270 Diamondville. I see no real difference in performance between these chips, the only difference is in power 600mw average for the N270 in the M9 and 250mw average fro the Z530 in the M10.

So the M10 should have a longer battery life, but with the larger screen and a hard drive is the life longer?

I am happy with my M9 and not about to upgrade for so little technology for such a large cost difference.

The Mini 9 looks to be the best buy for me.

You forgot to mention the reason why so many people (myself included) would never get a Mini9 - the hideous keyboard. Yes, it may sound like a minor issue, but to a lot of people, not having the standard IBM-style layout is simply out of the question. Even if the Mini9 and Mini10 were identical in all other aspects, I'd jump on the Mini10 because of the standard layout keyboard - I'm one of those "perfect keyboard" freaks.

You do know there are 2 official keyboards for the Mini 9, right? Sorry if you already knew that.

I was not aware of that. Upon some quick research, it looks like you can get a US, UK, French/Candian, Spanish and Brazilian keyboard? From what I understand, however, the keys still remain cramped and at half length, correct? Unless their is some homebrew mod where you replace some unneeded keys in with full length "tab" and "backspace" keys, for example. Still, I don't really think it's worth the trouble. I personally will not buy the initial Mini10, but I am definitely looking into the one with the higher-res screen w/ GPS...

Definitely better, but still not IBM-style layout.

Close enough for me, but we all have different needs I guess!!

I can also touch-type on it at almost the same speed as I can on a regular keyboard, and I'm a 6'3" guy with big hands.

Bought one over the phone today from Dell directly. Only available in one configuration though for $449. No tuner, no GPS. Black only.

Ouch, man. Looks like a very slightly bloated Mini9 configuration for a Mini10 price. :?
