Default Need some help getting it running - 01-22-2012, 05:18 PM

So I picked up a mini 1010 (MFG date Dec 2009) at an electronics recycling place for $15.

Obviously it's not in top condition for that price.
What's missing is:
-Battery
-Touchpad and palmrest
-AC adapter

It was also missing the HDD, I installed one that I had lying around.

Basically I want to see if the motherboard still works before I buy more parts for it.
My questions are:
Can it run/turn on without a battery installed?
I've tried plugging it in to what seems to be a compatible AC adapter (19v) but no lights come on, and no HDD sounds.
Also, if it is the motherboard, could it be software or bios issues, obviously it could be hardware as well, but I want to make sure before I just chuck it.

Edit: One more thing, if it does need a battery installed, could I just bridge the connections in the battery plug area, just for testing purposes? If so, which ones do I bridge. I don't want to buy a battery unless I know it works.

Would appreciate some expertise on the situation.
Thanks.

the 1010 will run with NO battery, could be a mobo, what I would do is verify that the HD works in another system or take an HD from a working system (standard 2.5 SATA) and put it in and also try checking the BIOS and set it back to default settings....and go from there

I tried another HD from my Latitude...still nothing, no lights, nothing.
How is it that you set the bios to default?
Maybe it's hopeless, but kind of wish I could get it working.
