Default batter won't charge - 08-05-2011, 03:27 PM

i've had my netbook for little over a year (barely over warranty) now the battery won't charge but shows icon of plugged in and charging (but not charging at all). so i thought the battery was dead so tested it on a diff mini and sure enough the batter was dead. bought new non oem battery, plugged it in and it charged half way and stopped. now it's not charging anymore and will only work while plugged in. I take the battery out of mine and put it in another mini to test, it charges just fine. so it must be my mini not charging the battery. now the battery is completely gone, it seems like it doesn't run while plugged in either. it'll turn on while plugged in and work for a while and would shut off after a few and won't turn back on. i'd leave it for a while and try again, with the same thing happening. works for a few then off.

it could be the AC adapter, it could be a heat related issue (something heats up then shuts off), if it does the same thing with both batteries its probably the could also have a defective battery (your original being shot and the new one being defective)...most likely is the AC adapter, if you can try a another adapter (check the output is 30w and the pin polarity is the same before plugging it in..I believe the center is "+")...there is also a chance that the charging circuit on the mobo is gone also......but probably it is the AC adapter..thats what I would check 1st.....

PS. Does the Mini work without a battery connected in at all?

thanks! it's not the charger since i have two at home and a 3rd one at work. all 3 won't charge the battery. the first one died, the second battery isn't bad since it charges fine on the other mini. i also tried taking the working battery from work and tried on mine, still no dice. the netbook does work w/o the battery in it. i'm really thinking its the charging port (whatever its called) is loose on the motherboard.
