Default FreeBSD on dell mini 1010? - 02-28-2011, 12:23 AM

Hi! I have a dell mini 1010 and I was looking into using free bsd because I'm an OS nerd and I've heard good things about it.....

So, my question to you is.... Does anyone know if I should be able to use FreeBSD on my dell mini 1010? I wasn't sure because of the whole gma 500/poulsbo monstrosity.

So.... anybody know if I can run FreeBSD? Thanks!

why u dont try ubuntu 9.10 works nice and smooth on mini 1010. i tested on my mini many OS and Jolicloud and ubuntu 9.10 runs great. My last test was with Ubuntu 10.10 and all works perfect too, but 3d effects are 90% perfect.

I dunno, but I wouldn't hold your breath for a proper GMA500 driver for FreeBSD.

I have it installed without X, still working on getting wireless working, might try OpenBSD as I think it has better support for the Broadcom wireless chips. I haven't tried PC-BSD but, I suspect it will be the same.

Do you want to test "Debian GNU/kFreeBSD" instead? When I get my hands on my old 1210 (Same CPU and chipset but with slower HD and bigger screen) I may try Linux or Debian GNU/kFreeBSD.
