Default XP SP1 install on Mini 10, hangs at GUI install. - 09-13-2010, 11:04 PM

Hello all,

I have a mini 10, just picked it up over the weekend, and had Ubuntu 10.04 running happily on it, with the exception of regular vlc videos, anything other than streaming video, which I was sad about.

So I had to put Windoze back on.

I used an external WD 60GB hard drive, combined with Novicorp's WinToFlash software to get the files from my good old genuine XP SP1 disk onto the drive.. and installed, up until it goes from text mode to GUI mode, when it says it needs the file "asms". Which I can't for the life of me find. Anyone's advice would be wonderful, because I don't have an external cd drive.

I think XP SP1 is too old for the Mini 10. You should have SP3. When it asks for "asms", it is looking for the directory containing the installation files.

You have an original Mini 10? (model 1010, Z-series Atom CPU, GMA500 graphics)

If you decide to try Ubuntu again, see this page for important info about the graphics driver:

Mini 9 | Intel 5100 Wifi | Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook
Mini 1012 | SSD | Intel 6200 Wifi | Ubuntu 11.10 64bit
