I'm in no hurry to upgrade from XP SP3 x86, and I realize that I can't actually upgrade directly to Windows 7, but there are ways of doing it without losing everything as in a format.
I already tried a fresh installation using Windows 7 Ultimate a while back and the machine just crawled unless I altered Visual Effects for best performance, in other words turned off visual effects altogether, thereby defeating much of the Windows 7 advantage, so I reinstalled XP.
Has anyone successfully managed to get Windows 7, whatever flavour, to behave reasonable normally on this machine with Aero etc?
Don't forget I can't upgrade the memory on this particular machine.
I have access to my Technet downloads so can download any flavour of Windows 7.
I see that Dell is now pushing them with Genuine Windows® 7 Starter for Small Notebook PCs, 32bit, English....whatever that is - the 'for Small Notebook' bit is not a Technet download option.
