Default Broken Keyboard Ribbon Connector - 07-14-2010, 02:10 PM

I have a new mini 1010. Though I ordered it with BT, it came without, so I ordered on ebay and installed it myself.

I have a problem with my keyboard now. The ribbon came out of the connector, along with a thin piece of brown metal. When I tried putting the ribbon and thin metal piece back into the connector, the connector (little and white) disloged from the motherboard. I can't figure out how to get it back on.

Am I in big trouble? Can this be fixed? Does it need to go to Dell or can a local repair shop do it?

It must just be easier to score a new oem keyboard off ebay for 20 bucks shipped (just skimmed through a few listings). Then you'll have a back up. Might be cheaper than a trip to the shop or convincing dell to repair it for you as part of your warranty plan...(but you can always try hustling dell as a first step )

If it's like the Mini 9, the connector is part of the mainboard and not the keyboard assembly. You evidently broke the clamping mechanism. I don't know how to fix it.

you should have sent it right back...its not what you ordered...send it back...too late now..but when I order something the way I want it and I dont get it, it goes back...that goes from a steak cooked medium rare to a pre-customized DELL Mini....after all I am paying for this..they are not doing me any favors...this is not from the goodness of their heart..its from my wallet and I want and expect what I order and expect to pay for in return
