My Dell Mini 1010.
I was following Slickdeals, and saw a Dell thread about 20% off at the Dell Outlet Store (deal dead). I scanned the list from cheapest to pricey.
I ended up with: refurb Dell Mini 1010, 1.33GHz, 1GB RAM, 160 HDD, B/G 802.11, 3G/WWAN, web cam, 3-cell battery, XP for $183 + tax, free ship. And yeah.. I really don't *need* it, but hey.. it's cheap.
Nice little netbook. Very value driven. Overall, I'm very impressed with the cost of this netbook. $183 for a netbook.. wow.. As a refurb, the system arrived without any signs of use, no scratches, marks; I couldn't tell from new. Quite a bit sluggish as I am used to high-end, bleeding edge multi-core Mac hardware with gobs of RAM. I do have in my pile of gear, a new Inspiron 1545; loaded, and it's performance is acceptable for Core2 Duo. It was also cheap.. $290.
Done: Reformat, create another partition (for future use), install Windows 7 Ultimate
Software: FireFox, iTunes, QuickTime, Safari, Symantec Endpoint Protection, SpyBot, latest Flash beta
Install Dell drivers/updates, configure 3G/WWAN to work with my AT&T iPhone SIM :-)
To do: Bluetooth card in route via eBay @ $9. Maybe look for a WLAN 802.11n card, but I'm unsure whether I'll see a perceptible difference between n and g.
Now.. what to do with the empty partition? I really don't need a Hackintosh, as I have MacBooks of all sizes. However, it has a high geek appeal.
Any other suggestions for 'pimping' my Dell Mini?
