Default Can I boot recovery cds from a usb? - 04-10-2010, 02:44 AM

Hi All

After receiving this error "load needed DLLS for kernel error" I simply cannot get my mini to boot even from the recovery partition. Maybe a bad bug however all I want to do is recovery the unit at this point. I have the cds but trying to avoid dropping more bucks down on an external dvd drive. Is there any other way to load the recovery cds with the drive? I tried loading the cds on a usb stick but it gives me an error message when trying to boot from it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

are you sure that the USB drive is bootable, try the USB drive in another computer if possible, also on the Mini you need to go into the BIOS and enable "LEGACY USB" in order to boot from it

There's no general way to convert CDs/DVDs/ISOs to bootable USB drives. There are tools, which work for specific sources (like a Win7 install DVD, or an Ubuntu Linux ISO), but I don't know if there's anything that'll work with the restore method used by Dell's CDs.
