Default Clicking & screeching noise - 03-20-2010, 01:49 AM

I got a clicking noise within my netbook it sounds like im clicking on something on a webpage but Im not and the sound is muted and then it becomes a loud screeching noise like very annoying that I just shut the computer off I have already sent it to dell they sent a letter back saying they tested all the hardware but obviously theres something still wrong! I need help quick!!

If the clicking noise isn't coming from the speakers, then my #1 suspect would be the hard drive.

Hard drives normally produce a series of clicks under use. Adjusting their AAM value can reduce the noise, at the expense of performance. Search for "windows aam".

Or when idle, some hard drives park the head, which is one big click infrequently. This sounds like it might be your problem. Adjusting the drive's APM value can prevent the noisy parking. Search for "windows head parking".
