call dell for a new trackpad. I had the same problem, and they sent me a new one. the usual culprit is with a loose connection, the wire that runs from the trackpad to the board.
also, don't install the dell trackpad utility. it enables scrolling capabilities, but it sucks.

I have a mini 10 with all the bells and whistles (that I can't use because they sold me a machine with not enough memory to handle it). The few times that I have used it (it has issues loading anything in the browser, so I am still using my old inspiron 6000 or my work laptop, latitude D820), I was forced to use the USB mouse because the touchpad makes the curser jump all over the place without my directing it to. Has anyone had this problem? The support people were of no help - they tried to sell me yet another service for software support - I already regret buying the extra warrenty, and am not about to pay for software support for hardware issue
