Default Is Mini 10 the only way to get HD (UK Store) - 01-14-2010, 11:33 AM

I've been blundering around with the configurator and I can only get the HD display if you choose the old Dell Mini 10. The one with the Z530 cpu and not the regular Atom. The new Dell Mini 10 with the Pineview chipset doesn't offer the HD screen either, but it's listed in the tech specs.

Now I know the Z530 rocks, I've got one, so I've no problem with the older model, I was just concerned with the 1Gb only line up we get in the UK.

I don't know if the situation's changed, but in the past, Intel crippled the N-series Atom with restrictive licensing (to keep it from competing with Intel's Core 2 laptop chip). That's why you don't see high-res screens with the N-series. The more expensive Z-series didn't have the same restrictions.

The Mini 1012 was listed with the HD screen option for £31 on the first day - it has since gone so I guess you will need to wait for it to reappear. You could also look at the 11z which has the same 1366x768 display in a larger 11.6" sized screen.

I think that everyone is jumping the gun here for the new 1012, if people would be patient and wait I am sure that in the coming weeks many more options for the new 1012 will become available, I dont think that there is any need to be the first one on the block with the new 1012, I personally have no intention of upgrading from my 1010 and mine plays 720p HD video just fine I dont need the NEW HD audio that the new 1012 is supposed to have as an option that is, we dont even know if the new 1012 will run OSX yet not it even matters to me cause I dont want OSX, but when this machine is finally Officially released I am sure that it will be just as highly configurable just like the 1010s were...just my 0.02..
