Default Microsoft Explorer mini mouse with Win 7 on the Dell Mini 1010 - 12-19-2009, 06:32 PM

Hi Guys...can anyone help...

I have the built in Bluetooth module for the Dell 1010 and have just purchased the Microsoft Explorer Mini Mouse.

It comes with a USB transmitter and when this is plugged in the mouse works fine

I would really like to make use of the internal Bluetooth module, but i cant get the Dell Mini with Win 7 to pick it up...

I've updated the Bluetooth module in Win 7 and is no better...am yet to update the WiFi

Can anyone tell me if this SHOULD work or does the bluetooth (Internal) of the Dell mini 1010 not pick up 2.4Ghz bluetooth mouse?

Thanks guys

Looking on the MS site, I see no mention that this is a Bluetooth mouse and the picture does not have the BT logo. They say it uses 'bluetrack' technology, which seems to relate to its use of a blue led rather than the usual red leds used in wireless mice. Sounds like sneaky MS marketing!
The Dell mini mouse they had recently on offer, and which I bought, does have the logo and works well in both OSX and Win 7 using the internal module.

Sorry to have to tell you, but as Alpine101 has just said, the Microsoft Explorer Mini Mouse is NOT a Bluetooth device.

As you have only just purchased it, you might be able to exchange it for another model, such as the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 for example, or even a Logitech Bluetooth Mouse M555b, either of which should work well with your Dell Mini 1010.

No, it's real. The blue laser mice track better than conventional "laser" mice. I've used them on glass and other reflective surfaces.

Guys...good and valid point I received the USB key and "assumed it was another bluetooth transmitter...looking again i see no reference to bluetooth...idiot (me)

Another question it also says its a 2.4 Ghz and can be setup using wifi...is there anyway of configuring something within wifi for my laptop to pick it up?

A lot of bother for a mouse !!

I see your recomendations....whats the best (Smallest) bluetooth mouse to get?

That it uses 2.4GHz doesn't mean it's WiFi. 2.4GHz is used by many different technologies, including Bluetooth. There's no concept of a "WiFi mouse".

That Dell offer is still on the UK site, don't know about the US, £12.59 delivered.
Keyboards & Mice : Laptop Accessories | Dell UK

I see a reviewer there has given it 1 star. Couldn't disagree more, it's a nice weight, not too small but not full size either and 2 rechargeable AAs give me a week's life with the mouse on from 9am until 10pm each day. I bought the white one which matches my white topped Mini.
Edit: I need to revise my battery life upwards. I think the first ones I used were not fully charged.Second go has so far lasted more than a week and the icon tells me the batteries are still 'good'.

That mouse was just on sale cheaply in the US (back up to full price now), and I picked one up. So, far it's worked well for me. I'm using it with my Mini 9 via a external BT receiver. It doesn't wake as quickly as my USB wireless mice, but it's not a deal-breaker.
