Just downloaded it. Will give it a week or two to see how it works out.

well, the way it works is being as where the Minis do not have a dedicated graphics cards they use what is called a graphics processor (GMA500,GMA945,GMA3150..etc) which it shares the 1gb/2gb of system RAM with...when the graphics processor needs more RAM it is taken from the system RAM...in answer to your question I dont think there is a way of increasing the shared memory.... it is just taken as needed from the system

Question 09-13-2010, 01:41 PM

Anyone else finding that this driver isn't too good in Win 7 Ultimate (x86) ?

I'm having a heck of a time controlling brightness and contrast which always seems to revert to a rather glaring setting just after the log on screen, no matter what settings I use.

I also find this netbook confusing in that there are also settings for brightness in the power plan's advanced settings, or is that a feature of all netbooks?

Whatever setting I adjust it seems to have only a temporary effect anyway.

I have switched to this driver now under XP and W7:
Intel® Embedded Design Center - Intel® Embedded Media and Graphics Driver (Intel® EMGD)

It doesn't support Aero yet (announced for mid 2011) but DXVA1/2 is supported. My MSI U115, which also contains the US15W chipset, plays 1080p MKV ultra smooth now in overlay mode on a 1920*1200 monitor with minimal player CPU usage, tested with WMP, MPC Homecinema and PotPlayer.

Edit: I have just seen that the driver is already prepackaged: \plugins\Pre_Packaged.Drivers_1.5.0\Windows\IEMGD_ HEAD_Windows.zip, so the stuff in brackets isn't necessary...
(You have to create the driver installation package yourself, it's just a few clicks. A howto is available on Youtube for IEGD, but it's also usable for EMGD:
)

Under XP the \Utilities\setup.exe can be used for installation, under W7 the driver has to be updated manually thru device manager, use "have disk" and agree to the installation of the unsigned driver. Afterwards \Utilities\emgdgui.dll can be registered with regsvr32 to enable the advanced shell extension tabs.
