I have a 2 month old Dell Mini 1010 that came with a built in GPS and Webcam. The unit originally shipped with Win XP. Both GPS and webcam worked out of the box, but whenever Windows XP would automatically update, both the webcam and the GPS would stop working. I'd call Dell and they'd eventually update something or change something via their online tech support and it would work again.... until the next time Windows updated.
Getting tired of this bullSh*t, I decided to bite the bullet and install a full Windows 7 Ultimate. Bought the SW, brought it home, wiped the hard drive clean to remove any possible virus/trojan and installed Win 7 Ultimate. It works fine. Next step, update to the latest drivers and updates from Microsoft. No problem. Now, install anti virus. AVG. Check to make sure system is running OK. No issues.
Now to reinstall the Webcam and GPS software. Put on Dell Webcam Central from backup disks that came with the computer and installed the CoPilot live from the included memory card. Both installed correctly. The drivers installed and Windows 7 recognizes both devices.
BUT, neither works.
When starting up Webcam Central, I get an error message that says
"No supported webcam driver detected", but Device manager shows the correct driver and that itr is working correctly.
When starting up CoPilot live, the SW stars, but never sees any satellites. Again, the drive is there and Device manage says it is working properly
Dell is NO HELP at all. They say it's a Windows 7 problem, even though they have multiple calls on record of it happening with XP. All they want to do is charge me $239 for a years worth of 'Software technical support', but they won't guarantee that they can fix the issue. I've also checked the Dell website for newer drivers, but no joy there either.
What's the use of having a built in webcam and GPS if you can't use them?
Does anyone have this configuration and, if so, does your webcam and GPS work? Any ideas?
