Default Touch screen upgrade - 10-19-2009, 09:24 AM

Hey Guys...

I am new to the forum, but noticed that there seems to be a lot of knowledge and experience out there so I figured I'd post.

I just bought a Dell Mini 10 from Delloutlet. I have the 1024 X 576 screen if I am not mistaken.

I want to do a touchscreen upgrade.

My questions are as follows:

1.) Does anyone recommend a product to purchase? I have looked around a bit and found that many of the 10.1 inch screens are not fitted for Dells. I would like something easy, so perhaps someone knows of an exact fit, high quality product.

2.) Anyone know of a step by step guide with pictures/video?

Thank you in advance for your time,

Dan

Default Still looking for product - 10-20-2009, 08:49 AM

I am still looking for a good touchscreen panel that will surely fit my Dell Mini 10.

I got the following reply from a sales rep at fidohub:

"I need you to take a picture of the webcam port on motherboard, and the socket from webcam module, to make sure our cable can plug it in.
Also, you'll need to find a space to place the controller board."

Anyone have such pictures?

Also, I found this product, but its cheap.... only $55. Will it work?

eeePC 1000H 10" Touchscreen Kit, NEW [plastic] [ plastic_10" ] - -=- Conics.Net

Thanks in advacne.... any help or feedback you guys can provide is HIGHLY appreicated!

Dan

I'd suggest taking a look at the Latitude 2100 and, pecifically, at this thread (in these forums):

Latitude 2100 Part Numbers

The part number for the 2100's touch screen is in that post.

Thanks for the reply.

Again I aplogize as I am very new to this forum... are you refering to: H197P Liquid Crystal Display?

If so, it appears that I amso need a controller? Looks like the total would be about $160! Thats a bit more than I initially thought I would have to spend.

If this is in fact what I need, any idea where I can get it?

Also, I dont know if I am mistaken, but I looked that part up and it seems to be for another computer. I need something or a Dell Mini 10 with a 10.1 inch screen, I believe that part was for a 17 inch monitor. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your time,

Dan

Default Mini 10 Touch Screen - 10-21-2009, 03:49 AM

The Latitude 2100 is pretty much the professional version of the Mini10v, from all I can tell. So the touch screen from the 2100 should work for what you seek. I pointed you to that thread because that person had already done a bunch of legwork. Unfortunately, that is all I know.

Good luck, though.

Has anybody tried fitting the L2100 touch screen parts into a M10?
May cost a little more but I'd rather go this route being Dell parts.

Touch screen kit: (Note: DOES NOT include Touch Screen Controller. This is the complete 1024x576 display with the touchscreen overlay, but no display cable so you must use the existing one.)
1 H197P Liquid Crystal Display 10.1WSVGA,Anti Glare,Touch Screen,Legend $164.99

Touch screen controller and cable kit:
1 FHWMH Service Kit,Assembly,Card,Controller,Touch Screen,LAT2100 $24.99

But the screen is 17 inches for the Lattitude?

I basically just need a product to use for this mod. Anyone know of an exact product?

New option:

I am a bit impatient and have been unable to find a product designed for the Dell Mini 10 specifically. I spoke with Hoda and they told me they will have a product for the Mini 10 in about 3 weeks.

In the meantime, I spoke with someone from FidoHub and we came up with the following situation:

They sell me the 10.1" Easy & Fun TouchKit for Acer Aspire One D150 as well as the correct fitting and plugs for the Dell Mini 10. I would have to solder some wires to get the thing to work. That kit costs about $100 before shipping. They told me that if I document the process with video and photos they will give me the purchase price back! For a little extra work, I get a free touchscreen!

Anyone know if this is really more work than I think? Is it worth it to go ahead with the potentially free kit that I have to modify, or wait for the specific Hoda product in three weeks?

Thanks in advance for your imput!

I spoke with the guy from Hoda and he said he could piece together the following:

-10.1 inch touch screen
-Controllers
-Solder free harness that comes with the Dell Mini 9

He also added the following: "If the motherboard in both versions share similar in design, there is a good chance that you could use the harness given without soldering. If not then you will need to make some solders yourself."

Does anyone know if the motherboards are similar enough that I can use the same harness without soldering? If so, is the soldering so complicated to do?

Thanks again!

It's not 17", it's 10.1"

Looks like it is still available, I just built one and added it to my cart with an expected ship date of 10/28.

BTW, if you've never soldered before, I WOULD NOT recommend learning on a MoBo lol.
