your problem isnt really a problem. now my buddies inspiron 15. it had missing gigs. about 80gb actually. went through every file and even did the math on the used space and it never added up. i had to do a complete format and reinstall before it would show up again. never really figured out what the problem was either. and it wasnt simply hidden files.

This is the same with all HD manufacturers and Windows, they count bytes differently per GB, you still have the same amount of bytes, just a smaller GB count.
Try doing a 500GB drive or bigger, the difference is quite a bit. Found this out when 500GB drives first came out and installed one lol.
Another thing too that eats up space is restore, util, or hidden partitions.
