Default Scrolling "bands" HD Screen - 09-14-2009, 05:46 AM

I have recently noticed that when i navigate to certain websites that have solid colors (such as woot.com) or websites that have large patches of gray, using my mini, I get these pulsating horizontal bands that become more intensified with a dimmer screen. They give me a headache after some time...do other people get this "effect" as well? Please do tell...

Might be a temporal dithering effect?

I've seen this on LCD screens with wrong refresh rates. Do you have the option to change this in display settings?

Edit: On second thoughts, I believe it was colour depth not refresh rates.

Hrmmm thanks for the suggestions. I am a bit baffled though. My refresh rates and drivers are all in good order (windows 7 rc1). The "scrolling bands" occur mostly on gray screens at any brightness level. Is this just a normal occurence with the HD screen that i should get used to? My "real" laptop does not seem to exhibit a similar effect.

I have also a mini 10 with hd screen and anything else which is possible. I notice the some bands. It's like look at a screen of a digital camera at a monitor but not that strength.

It is related to the light level of the screen. On highest level the bands are not visible. At the lowest level they are a little bit visible.

I test a little bit and i would say that this is a kind of frequency which is either a the power connector of the leds or coming from outside and influence the screen themself.

I never get the bands of. Maybe we will find a solution together.

Looks like Dell solved the problem without a hint.

hi,

i have the same problem. I have tried tu upgrade my bios to A11 whithout success...

Is there somebody that manage to solve this band hd screen issue?

the vest way to see theses moving horizontales bands is to open acrobat reader (look at the grey background) and put the lominosity to 30%).

If you don't see the moving band could you tell me what version of bios you are using. I didint notice the issue with A04 bios but with A10 and A11 bios...

Hello,

sorry to hear that it is not working with your mini 10. I'm using bios A11 since it come out and my problems with the bands are gone. If your are using win 7 you can see the bands really good when opening system view and uac question is shown.

So why you are not using A04 when this is working?
Maybe you can also try A04 --> A05 --> A06 ... till A11. Maybe something is not completly updated when your are going from A04 to A11.

Greetings

I meant to send an update but you guys know how these things go sometimes. After several BIOS upgrades, two trips to the service depot and a motherboard replacement, Dell replaced the screen and that has solved the problem. There is a hardware defect in your screen if u are seeing the bands. I'd call dell tech support and insist that you have another mini by your side and that it does not exhibit the same "effect".
