Please post back with the jolicloud results. I just got a 1010 that I will need to start working on. I would prefer OSX as I really dig my 10V but that's obviously not an option.

I will do, i'm using the Express installer so I can keep Windows 7 installed as well, the installer works in the same way as wubi, afaik.

I'm planning on replacing the stock drive on mine so I won't have any windows. I realize I may be in for some problems but I hope not...

The express installer is very unstable atm, if its a new install i would recommend getting the ISO and the USB key utility and installing it that way instead.

---------- Post added at 07:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:33 PM ----------

Got it installed, eventually. Very fast for a Linux Distro on the mini 10. The amount of apps is pretty good as well, Chrome is listed among them, which is pretty good considering it's only just been released. Wine is also available, this should make it easier for XP and 7 users to switch as well

I would highly recommend this for Mini 10 users who are running Linux.

However these are just my initial observations I need more time to play with it first.

Oh, i forgot, anyone who wants an invite PM me and I'll send you one. I have 10 to share!!!

That's my plan, thanks for the heads up. I have XP now but I plan on starting with a fresh scorpio black 320 GB 7200 RPM drive. That's how I roll on my 10v and it's been working well.

Jolicloud GMA500 driver implementation is simply horrible... I think that they have just repacked some old ubuntu driver or something similar, rather than build the intel officially supported linux driver, the iegd one! It's quite like not have the drive. It's tooooo slow. Just scrolling a simple page is a difficult job...

So, what what Linux distro would you suggest running on the Mini 1010?

You're basing this comment on Pre-Beta software. I would highly suggest reading what they have done to customise the standard Ubuntu distro. From what I gather from their website they have employed the use of a separate DRI for GMA500 netbooks to get it running at a decent, but not entirely perfect speed on the GMA500!!!

You can read more about it here http://building.jolicloud.com/

Oh, btw, Intel don't develop the drivers for the GMA500. Tungsten Graphics create the drivers and the core is a PowerVR core from Imagination Technologies. That's why there will never be a Linux driver for the GMA500 from Intel.

Just installed Jolicloud this morning on my Mini 10. I am absolutely loving it. I didn't even have to bother with the Poulsbo Drivers. Everything worked from intial start-up. I will now be using Jolicloud instead of Karmic UNR. I would recommend anyone with a Mini 10 who wants Linux, to install this distro, it works and is painless to set up.

Sorry, but it's not true... A driver there is. And it's fully supported by Intel... It support full 2d,3d and video acceleration... It's the IEGD one...

(moblin-ivi-gnome-20090819-001.img) for Intel(R) System Controller
Hub US15W/WP/WPT chipset.
This is part of latest release notes... The problem is that this driver isn't for users, but for developers, that must integrate it in their distro... So it's installation isn't a one click one.

If you are good at linux (I'm not) you can try install it, I will send you the driver and its install guide.

I want to ask you a thing about your Jolicloud experience, because maybe it's a mine problem... When you have Firefox opened, and you are scrolling a medium weight page, it will "flash" like it is rerendering the screen each time, or your scrolling in jolicloud is identical in XP

I have noticed that medium to heavy pages do have an issue rendering, but this also occurs on Windows as well. Have you tried the same websites on Chrome?

The only reason I don't want to try that particular driver is because of the way the GMA500 driver is integrated into Jolicloud, using a separate DRI and I don't know enough about Linux to mess around with it.

But as scout4536 has said, everything just works with Jolicloud which makes it a less complicated distro to setup on the Mini 10 for average users.

The only other issue I have had is with Bluetooth.
