Hi all
Newbie here, so please be gentle! I got my Ubuntu Mini 10 today, intending to install OSX on it, but when I discovered that it's not possible yet (is it???) I decided to try out WinXP instead. It's all gone pretty well, except I cannot get any GMA500 video drivers to work - the hardware is shown in Device Manager as "Video Controller" and "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)", both of which have no drivers installed (little yellow exclamation symbols).
I have installed all the other relevant drivers from the Dell support site, including the Intel Chipset one, but whenever I try the Intel GMA500 drivers, the Setup.exe program immediately exits saying "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software". If I try using Device Manager and going to "Update driver..." then it says no suitable software was found.
I've tried these drivers, all with the exact same issue:
- The drivers for the Mini 10 from Dell's website
- The drivers for the Mini 12 from Dell's website
- Intel's drivers for the GMA500 from their website
- A version of the drivers linked somewhere on here from Asus's website
I've spent several hours on Google now trying to work this out and see there are numerous issues with the GMA500 chipset, but I can't find anything quite like my problem!
Am I alone? Can anyone offer any advice please??
Many thanks
Spugs
PS. Just in case it's relevant - I'm on BIOS version A06 (which isn't on the Dell site for download) and the machine is called a "Inspiron 1011" in the BIOS, rather than a 1010 as it is on the Dell site. Also, my service tag isn't recognised on the Dell site.
