Instructions - 08-30-2009, 03:16 PM
I've got it running. Basically, followed the instructions in this thread, sort of went through them and weeded out the pieces I thought I would need.
Here's the procedure:
Install OSX onto an external drive (using a real Intel Mac).
Boot the external drive, again, on the Mac.
Upgrade -- download the combo updater, I used 10.5.8 without any problem.
Run the Combo updater.
install Chameleon 2 to the external drive.
Follow through the instructions in this thread to get all the Kexts into both the Extra folder on the external drive and the /System/Library/Extensions folder. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully -- at one point you have to open up a couple of the kexts (use "show package contents in the context menu) in your new OSX install and replace only a specific file inside the kext.
Edit the com.apple.boot.plist file, as it says in the thread. Pay special attention to the boot disk option -- you're probably going to have to change this several times until you get it to work. If it hangs partway through the process and says it's looking for a root drive, that's your cue to go back and try another drive number.
Unplug the external drive from your mac, plug into your mini-10.
If you got lucky and picked the right root disk off the bat, continue on. Otherwise plug your drive back into your mac and edit the com.apple.boot.plist file again.
Once you get it to boot, you will get LOTS of kext errors(basically all the ones you copied into the system/library/extensions folder. The first thing to do is repair permissions. You may have to do this from a terminal, as your trackpad likely won't work and neither will an external mouse. Keyboard shortcuts are your friend -- you can get to the terminal application from the keyboard.
Once you get permissions repaired, reboot. If you're lucky, your external mouse will work. You will still have a ton of kext errors.
Reinstall all the kexts using kext helper.
Resolution's stuck at 1024x768. Tons better than 1024x576 that the 10v uses, but hopefully it can be fixed. I'm still working on trying to figure out why it won't go to the max resolution yet.
I'm also having trouble getting it to work on the internal drive of the machine -- I think there's something it doesn't like about the partitioning scheme, and I don't want to get rid of XP yet.
