Default Dell running into trouble with Mini10 GPS? - 08-05-2009, 08:11 PM

I ordered a Mini 10 with GPS on 07/28/09. When I log in to check my Estimated Delivery Date it shows 09/04/2009. I figure there has to be something holding up the order and I start building a new Mini 10 to check est ship dates and config differences. I can no longer add the GPS system to any of the Mini 10s I try to build. In the features it still list the GPS as an optional component on the Mini 10 only but it never shows up to add it as a feature.

Anyone actually have a Mini 10 with the built in GPS?

My Mini 10 with GPS arrived yesterday. I'm having some trouble making the GPS work under Windows 7, though... there isn't an installer for the driver available anywhere that I can tell.

That's good to hear at least. I was afraid they were going to remove it as a feature or something similar. Thanks for the reply.

Default supply shortages - 08-06-2009, 05:43 PM

Yes, Dell is having supply shortages, although they dont mention which part, but I think is the GPS.

On July 7, I ordered my mini 10 with the following spec:

- Z530 (1.6GHZ) Atom, 1GB RAM
- 10.1 Inch High Definition Widescreen Display (1366x768)
- TV Tuner - module
- GPS Receiver, Atlas DW700
- 56WHr Lithium-Ion Battery (6-cell)
- Bluetooth 2.1 module
- Dell Wireless 1510 802.11n Half Mini Card

My order has been delayed about 4 times and now my next "estimated date of delivery" is: August 14.

Almost 6 weeks!!!

But as my wife told me: "Are you asking toys-R-us to built your system? Shouldn't Dell be ready having the parts to start building your system? Or perhaps your mini it's been tested by NASA".

Dell... I wont never forget having me to hear my wife all these weeks. You better deliver it quickly and I'm praying it comes with not defects or issues otherwise I'm a death husband.

Here's part of Dell's email:

Dell provides the GPS software solution from ALK : Copilot Live for Laptops:
CoPilot GPS: ALK Technologies

But you can also use Garmin Mobile PC:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=139&pID=13484

I think you can configure them with a serial port for your external bluetooth GPS.

Unhappy Great! - 08-14-2009, 09:28 PM

Great to just read these posts. I ordered one about half an hour ago.
They are still quoting a 9/4 ship date. I must be way down the list by now! Oh well, maybe by Christmas....

Arrow Similar Configuration no Delays (So far) - 08-18-2009, 04:52 PM

I ordered the DELL Mini recently, and I am expecting to get the delivery by August 26th. I had not been notified for the last 10 days on any delay related to my order. So I assume that there is no such a thing.

Default all sorted out? - 03-12-2010, 12:40 PM

It looks like Dell has solved it's issues with this model, I ordered one on March 3rd and the tracking number shows it to be delivered today: March 12th.

To the person posting about issues with Windows 7: Dell's website says Windows 7 will not work with the GPS module (as of 3/12/2010). The only software option I had was Windows XP, which is fine by me.
