Default It is looking like we may have a hard time upgrading to the 2gb daughter-board - 01-09-2012, 12:29 PM

Liquidsmoke,

It is looking like we may have a hard time upgrading to the 2gb daughter-board.

I tried Rich’s link:
bigestock.com/detail.php?part=536359

And del_in_de’s Asendtech 2gb daughterboard’s link:
ascendtech.us/dell-r031p-inspiron-mini-10-cpu-board_i_mbltpdelcnr031p.aspx

…both say unavailable….

**If anyone knows where the 2gb daughter-board is available, please PM me, or post a link.

Thanks.

I emailed asendtech and Daniel at bigestock to inquire about the 2gb board:
Asendtech responded saying they don’t know when they will be getting more, and I have yet to hear from Daniel at bigestock…..
Unfortunately it is looking like we are out of luck, and may be stuck with 1gb L

liquidsmoke,

I emailed codemicro today to see if they could match asendtech's price of $35. They said the best they could do was $205.
That is just not worth it for my mini 10, so I have decided to sell it, and I just bought a mint mini 11z off of ebay.

In short, it was a more economical deal: for $245 shipped(and 6 months left on the dell warrantee) I got: i3 processor, 2gb ddr3(expandable to 8gb), HD screen[1366x768], 250gb HD, wireless N, Win7 64bit, ect.
For me to upgrade my mini 10: Max 2gb [$35](if asendtech ever gets more of the$35 pcb's), HD screen[$80], wireless N[$15], and windows 7 32 bit[$89] = total~$220, and I have to do a ton of mods myself to get my mini 10 in that configuration!

*Since my mini10's perfect condition it should fetch at least $150 the way it is (this seems to be the going price on ebay & craigslist).
So for me: $245(mini11z) - $150(mini10)= $95 upgrade to a faster, better, and more expandable system that is still under dell warrantee. It was a no brainer!

Thanks for everyone’s help on this thread, but I will shortly be moving to the 11z thread.

Take care

I see where your coming from, but for me I use the laptop for:
a) playing music through an external USB DAC. for this I need a fanless machine. The mini 10 is the only one I currently know of?
b) ECU mapping of cars which I need loads of battery life for.

If the 11z was fanless I would go for it!

EDIT: btw; is the wifi upgradeable to 'n' on the mini 10?

Liquidsmoke,

1) The n wifi Dell-DW1510 can be had on ebay for about $15, and should be an easy swap. Here is an example:
Dell DW1510 Half Mini PCI-E Wireles WIFI ABGN BCM94322HM8L Dual-Brand Card | eBay

2) I heard from Dan at BigeStock, and he still has the 2gb R031P pcb's in stock. I didn't ask him how much, but I think Rich said they can be had for ~$160, if you mention Rich's name. *That is still a lot more than the $35 asendtech is asking, but who knows if they will ever get anymore for that price...

ya know guys ever since I was a little kid (I am over 50 now) my parents always told me 2 things that I still believe to this day.

1. 'You get what ya pay for'

2. 'If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is'

like everything else in life...'Its YOUR choice'
