Default USB 3G Dongle Causing BSOD - 07-23-2009, 09:21 PM

Howdy - I'm kinda new around here, so hi.

I've only had my Dell Mini 10 for a couple of weeks and I got a Vodafone 3G USB dongle with it. On a number of occasions, whilst connected via 3G I've been getting blue screens (BSOD).

This has only ever happened whilst using the 3G dongle and although the blue screen details vary from time to time, the most common cause appears to be USBPORT.SYS.

Now I don't know if it's a problem with the Vodafone dongle, the USB hardware, the drivers for either the dongle or the USB ports or what. But I was wondering if anyone else had been having any problems along these lines or have any suggestions as to what I could try?

Running XP Pro it came installed with.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there I am experiencing the same problem with my mini 10 and tmobile dongle. Have you been able to solve the problem yet as I am at a loss of what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Afraid not - I've kinda put up with it tbh. I have Windows 7 on order and hope that will resolve the issue when it arrives.

Out of interest, do you know the make/model number of your USB dongle?

I'm impressed you got Currys to admit fault - I didn't even bother trying to go down that route, presuming they'd be clueless.

Having done a little bit of analysis of the blue screen dumps, the problem appears to be related to the USB port - not sure whether it's the modem, the laptop or the software that's causing the crash however. That's why I wanted to know the model number of davies17 T-Mobile modem to see if it's the same.

If it's a different model this points the finger more heavily in the direction of the laptop and/or software (altho this is less likely).

My copy of Windows 7 shouldn't be too far away so I'll let you know if that helps any.
