It's quite possible... Here is the link that is quite helpful for Ubuntu resolution issues --> http://mok0.wordpress.com/2009/05/25...ell-mini-10-2/ . But it's not as instantly helpful as yours...

Great guide SammyBoy - thanks! I got through the whole thing without a hitch, until the very end, when I hit a DRM error after the second reboot. I nearly posted about it, before reading the rest of the guide.

Works flawlessly - excellent job.

Once shouldn't get a DRM error after driver installation. For some reason, the kernel thinks the hardware isn't there and instructs the OS to boot up in low graphics resolution mode.

Thumbs up Very cool - 09-20-2009, 01:15 PM

Worked great for my Mini 10. Nice instructions, it was a smooth walk-through some basic Linux stuff I need to learn. Thanks for the help!

Which version of Ubuntu are you guys installing? I did ubuntu-9.04-netbook-remix-i386.img but the desktop is painfully slow.

I'm still going through the guide so hopefully it improves or should I be using the normal desktop build of 9.04?

EDIT: Holy crap what a difference. Still think Win7 is much better suited to the hardware but the updates in this guide change it out of sight! Good work. So is there any further improvement going to desktop build?

If your using the Netbook remix change to the classic desktop. That will help tremendously.

Also Disable Maximus. Its too Annoying. Or for me it was anyways.

Cheers, grabbing ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso now. In the meantime I'm going to test out moblin...

I'll have to google Maximus as I'm used to headless RHEL/Fedora boxes so this Ubuntu desktop stuff is a new learning curve.

Moblin Does not Support the GMA500

And I Yet to get the driver to work with Moblin. But I haven't put forth alot of effort yet.

Doesn't matter, couldn't get it past the splash screen after install!

But that meant playing with Ubuntu sooner and you were dead right. The desktop version was usable on first boot, after doing your updates it was very impressive. If I can get my USB tv tuner to work in Ubuntu with a decent DVB app then I won't bother going back to Windows on the Mini!

I checked and tried to remove Maximus but it looks like that wasn't installed in the first place when I installed 9.04... so one good thing.

But I don't see 'Classic' desktop theme under System --> Preferences --> Appearance. It's set to default 'Human' Theme and I have sent the Effects to 'None' .

Is there another place to change / optimize ?
