New Fix. This Should totally eliminate the Video Lock ups while running 3d mode.

Ive done everything I can think of to get it to lock up. and it just wont do it.

to Run 3d with no lock ups you need to modify your xorg.conf

remove the DRI Option line

and add in its place

Code:
  Option "IgnoreACPI" "yes"
Reboot or CTRL+ALT+BackSpace Reboot would be better.

And Let us know how it goes.

So far, this has worked for me. No hangs since making the change. My UNR setup is slow (USB root and swap) but, at least, it appears to finally be reliable.

Default Ubuntu .15 - 08-26-2009, 08:10 PM

I upgraded to .15 and am now having video issues again. I tried redoing the steps as outlined for .14, which worked fine by the way for .14, but no joy for .15. Something must have changed again or I missed something. When I try to reapply the psb drivers and xserver I get told I already have the most current version and when I boot I get the DRM error. I am not that good with Ubuntu yet so I was wondering if anyone else ran into the same issue.....

It looks like you and I are in the same boat. Sammy helped me get 14 going; but his fix for 15 did not work. (at least not for me); it also finished off 14 as it does not work any longer and even the wifi card is not recognized in 14 any longer. Luckly I still have 13 and just boot into it. It still works fine.
I hate too keep bothering Sammy with requests for help; he has been a God Send to me and others on the forum. We cannot expect him (and other good guys on the fourm) to keep track of our problems and keep our systems working. But I know your fustration, I wish I was an expert and could help you, but sometimes I wonder when will it end. If I ever get 15 working I am going to turn off updates and stay with it and 13.
Good luck with your efforts to get it going. I hope you still have 13 on yoru system and at least you do have some version of Linux to use. fdalbor

Thanks Seejay.....I checked out the link and made some minor adjustments and got it to work for me.....Here is what I did....

I tried the reinstall command and I got errors after the remove was done and it tried to reinstall it. Sooooo, I did a "sudo aptitude remove psb-kernel-source" and when that was done I did a "sudo apt-get install psb-kernel-source". Then I rebooted and everything worked. Thanks for the help everyone....

Thanks a bunch for the information. I followed your instructions to the letter and 15 now works fine. I guest there will always be SOMEONE around to help us poor dumb fools out of a jam. Once again thanks; and thanks to sammyboy for the many, many times he has saved me and others. Take care; fdalbor

Thanks everyone for all the Thank You's

Ive edited the tutorial. Added for Kernel Updates and Change the way to recv a gpg key.

Between here and the Ubuntu Forums. My Tutorial has taken off like Wild Fire, I Cant keep up with the Emails Ive been getting. Because Not only does this work for the Mini 10 (1010) It works for all Netbooks using the GMA 500 and there seems to be quite a few out there.

Im Working on some more "tweaks" on getting 9.10 working 100% with the GMA500

Id like to give Moblin a Shot it looks like a nice OS but has no GMA500. I Recently got Fedora 11 Working as well. I will Post links to all my Tutorials soon Im doing a Nice little write up for Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.04, and Fedora 11. And Also doing one on how to dual boot and not destroy your current partitions. Much Much more to come just check my Blog from time to time.

Also For you Facebook'ers THere is a GMA500 Hate group LOL Join Up. Its just a little place for everyone who owns a GMA500 to Encourage Intel to undo the DRM in there drivers. Or Maybe hope someone can write an Open source Driver for the 500.

Thanks Everyone.
